what's happening and where to connect

Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.

BHYM - Wednesday Class

Wednesday, January 20, the teens will begin a new 12 week video study with Francis Chan on The Book of James. Teens 6th-12th grade are invited to meet in the Teen Center at 7:00 p.m.

Thursday Ladies Bible Class

The Thursday Ladies Bible class started meeting again this past Thursday. They meet via ZOOM each week at 10:00 a.m. and are using Jen Wilkin’s book, I Peter, A Living Hope in Christ, for their study material. Class leaders are Trella Greene, Jean Jones, Cathy Murphy, Janice Stroud, Joy Wells, Janice Wiley, and Diane Wright. If you would like to join the class, contact Janice Wiley or Diane Wright.

Wednesday, January 27 - New Ladies Small Group - RACIAL JUSTICE STUDY

Benita Brisco and Susan Richardson will begin a Women’s Small Group starting Wednesday, January 27, via Zoom. As of this writing, this group has reached its maximum number of members, but plans are to begin another group. If you are interested, contact Benita or Susan.

The materials for this study will be “The Trouble I’ve Seen” and “Who Will Be A Witness.” Both are written by Drew G.I. Hart, a writer and speaker on racial justice. “Trouble I’ve Seen” leads readers toward Jesus and offers concrete practices for churches that seek solidarity with the oppressed and are committed to racial justice. “Who Will Be A Witness” is a follow-up to “Trouble I’ve Seen” and calls the church to action by offering a way forward that is deeply rooted in the life and witness of Jesus. This will be an in-depth study and group members will be expected to purchase these 2 books, read the material and participate in discussions.

Baby Dedication Sunday, January 31

This is a time to dedicate BH children born in the last year to God; raising them to know, love, and grow in relationship with Him while we, as a church, also dedicate ourselves to walking alongside these families as they raise their children.

First Responders Care Baskets

Baskets are being prepared to be given to First Responders (fire, police, nurses and doctors). Simply write them a thank you note, a note of encouragement, or children can draw a picture for one or all of these groups. Bring your notes to church by Sunday, January 31, drop them off or mail them to the church office this week. Our goal is to have lots of notes and pictures to brighten up the baskets. There are blank BH note cards available in the Foyer and at the back entrance to the church building. These baskets will be delivered at the end of this month to Fire Station #13 and #17 (the two closest to our building), Cobb Police Precinct 5, and the Covid and Labor & Delivery Nurses stations at Kennestone Hospital. Thank you for helping bring some love and joy to our first responders and healthcare workers!

Thursday, February 4 - Ladies Book Club and Card Caring Sisters

This group is scheduled to meet on the 1st Thursday of each month from 6:30-9:00 p.m. The book to read for February is “Legacy of Mercy” by Lynn Austin. If we are unable to meet at the building, we will connect on ZOOM. For more information, contact Barbara Holley or Janice Stroud.

Blood Drive - Thursday, February 25

We will have a blood drive at Burnt Hickory in the Teen Center from 2:00-7:00 p.m. Hope you can make plans to give! To schedule a time to give, go to redcross.org, choose "Give Blood," then select "Find a Drive." Enter our sponsor code: BHCOC. Click this link to read the February 2021 Blood Drive Sponsor Bulletin. A couple things you will find in this bulletin is that Amazon is thanking donors in February with a $5 gift card by email (restrictions apply). Also, the Red Cross is testing blood donations for COVID-19 antibodies.
