Message from the Burnt Hickory Leadership
Special Activities for the Burnt Hickory Church of Christ

We all recognize the need and desire to meet again as God’s body of believers is first on most people’s list. We feel the same way. So, in order to speed up that process and take the first steps toward reopening the church we will have some preliminary activities beginning this week. See the Phases to Reopening chart for a step by step approach moving toward normal function as a church. We stand now moving out of phase 2 into phase 3. All of these functions will not take place at the same time, but rather will be done as the conditions and safety allow. For instance, we are not ready to resume worship in the building quite yet. Each area will take time, so please be patient as we implement these steps a little at a time. Also, the activities at Bartow and Marietta will be slightly different.

Below are a few important steps we will begin on Sunday, June 7.

1. Sunday Night Devotional on the Lawn

This will be held Sunday, June 7, at 7:00 p.m., weather permitting. Everyone is invited to attend this short time of singing, prayer, and scripture reading, “Except” those who are quarantined, sick, or who have been exposed to someone who does have the virus. For our Vulnerable Members, we will reserve the parking places on the first row of the parking lot by the lawn so you can stay in your cars. You are invited to gather in your cars in the front or side parking lot.

For the other members, bring your own chairs, or blankets and sit on the front lawn or in the circle drive out front. We ask that you keep a good distance, more than just 6 feet, from the family or person next to you. There is plenty of room so spread out. Masks are optional. Each person can do what they feel most comfortable.

You can choose to stay afterwards to visit, but please we ask that you guard a safe distance between families and individuals. We urge you to respect this, otherwise this opportunity will be futile and we will have to cancel this type of activity. We need to act like the grownups that we are.

2. Chalk Walk - Special Art and Prayer Walk

On Sunday, June 14, at 6:00 p.m., our members are invited to gather to draw, and write special verses, prayer needs, and messages in different parking spots surrounding the building. There will be time for singing, and everyone is encouraged to bring their own food, drinks, chairs, etc. and work on these drawings or simply watch and enjoy the evening.

On Monday, June 8, the Teens will come and draw a walking path which will be a prayer walk.

On Tuesday, June 9, at 6:00 p.m. all members are invited back to follow the path saying prayers for the themes pictured in each of the spaces. You can come and go as you wish.

We urge you to maintain a 20 feet distance between you and the group in front of you. We also encourage you to pray as you walk and not spend a lot of time at each space so that more people can join in the prayer walk as well.

3. Sunday, June 21 - Father’s Day

We encourage all of our families to spend time together after our online worship time. This is an important Family Day.

There will be more activities planned as we move closer to resuming our worship together in the building. We pray these activities will be a blessing to our Burnt Hickory Family. Other activities will be planned and communicated as we move forward.

Blessings to you all,

The Elders and Ministers
