Sunday: Jesus Entered Jerusalem

Jesus and his followers were on the road to Jerusalem. Jesus told two of his disciples to go into the village and bring back a young donkey he said they would find there. They brought the donkey to Jesus and put their coats on it. Jesus rode the donkey into Jerusalem. Along the way, many people worshiped Jesus by laying their coats on the road before him. They waved palm branches and shouted, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!”

The people thought Jesus would be their king and free them from the Romans who ruled them. Jesus indeed would become king, but not the way the people expected.

Activity:

If you are wearing a jacket, consider taking it off for a moment. Lay it on the ground before Jesus. Wave your arms and hands like palm branches and shout “Hosanna!”

Lesson:

Jesus revealed himself as a humble, sacrificial King. He is our King, deserving all of our honor and praise.
