Friday Evening and sunday morning: the empty tomb

After Jesus died, some of his followers wrapped his body in white linen. They took his body and laid it in a tomb that had never been used and a great stone was rolled over the entrance. The Pharisees knew Jesus had said, “After three days, I will rise.” So, they had Pilate seal the tomb where Jesus lay and ordered guards to keep watch.

On Sunday morning, there was a great earthquake because an angel of the Lord came down, rolled the stone away, and sat on it! The tomb guards were so scared they fainted! Then some women who were Jesus’ friends came to the tomb to care for Jesus’ body. The angel was there to tell the women Jesus had risen from the dead just as he said he would! And the linen wrappings that had covered Jesus were lying there inside the tomb. The angel told them to go and tell everyone the good news!

Activity:

Stoop down to look inside the tomb to see it is empty. This is the good news! Jesus’ death and resurrection from the dead has given us our salvation! Place your hand on your heart and say, “HE IS RISEN!” Then, get ready to tell everyone the good news by learning to say, “HE IS RISEN!” in another language.

Lesson:

Jesus conquered death. He is risen! Only through Jesus Christ our Lord can we be truly alive! In him we live.
