Who we are ...

Burnt Hickory Church of Christ offers a full community experience. A typical week includes a mixed contemporary/traditional Sunday morning worship service, followed by Bible classes for all ages, and small group opportunities throughout the week.

We are one church with two locations, BH Marietta and BH Bartow.

Got questions?

If you are planning a visit with us we would love to help answer your questions.

  • What are the service times?

    Sunday

    BH Marietta: Worship 10:00 AM

BH Marietta: Bible Classes (all ages) following worship until noon

    BH Bartow: Worship 10:00 AM

BH Bartow: Bible Classes (all ages) following worship

Small Groups meet at various times and locations throughout the week.

  • Where do I go when I first arrive?

When you pull into our parking lot, you will find designated parking for our guests on the right side of the building, conveniently located just outside our main entrance. Come to the front doors and our greeters will meet and assist you.

  • What should I wear?

Come as you are. You will find a range of dress styles from school clothing to an occasional sport jacket and dresses. So come dressed comfortably; you will fit right in.

  • What is your worship service like?

Our worship is acapella, meaning our entire congregation sings together without instruments. It’s one of our traditions that we think you will find very powerful. We serve communion every week and invite all believers to participate. As a church family, we contribute financially during worship. We do not expect our guests to make a donation. Every Sunday, one of our ministers will deliver a Bible-based, practical sermon.

  • What if I have children?

We offer nursery for children 0-23 months during our worship and Bible classes.

We also offer a special children's worship experience for 2 years old through PreK. You will begin by taking your children with you to worship. About mid-way through, just after communion and contribution, there is a time for children to give. They can give there donation by placing it in a special container at the front of the worship center. After that time and prior to the Bible lesson, your children will be given the opportunity to be checked into the Pre-K Worship. We will assist you in the transition.

  • During the Bible class which follows worship, your child will enjoy a wonderful, age appropriate Bible class while you meet with your peers in your Bible class. We strive to make sure our children and youth classes are safe environments. Our teachers of minors are child safety certified and have completed background checks. We provide coffee in our adult classes and we would love for you to stay and allow us an opportunity to meet you.

  • How do I join Burnt Hickory?

When we speak of “placing membership,” that simply means that as a baptized disciple of Christ, you are choosing to make Burnt Hickory your church home and be involved in its work. Ideally, that means that you will attend worship, be part of one of our small groups, discipleship groups, and be involved in one of our ministries.

The first step is to attend Starting Point. This quarterly information session is hosted by our lead minister, and is where you can get your questions answered. There is no obligation if you come, but we will explain our mission and vision and the process for placing membership.

To place membership, please click the link to complete and submit a BH Personal Profile form.

If you have not yet been baptized, please contact one of our ministers so that we can help you discover what the Bible says about this step in your spiritual journey.

  • Thanks for stopping by! Now that you've checked us out online, we hope you'll check us out in person, too! Contact us with any questions, concerns, or just to say hello. We can't wait to meet you -- online or in person!

OUR HISTORY

The Burnt Hickory church has a rich history. We began as a church plant by the Roswell Street Church of Christ in March of 1955. From the original little yellow house to our current facility, the dream to touch lives for the cause of Christ has continued.

As the church grew we became the Smyrna Church of Christ located in Smyrna, GA. The decision to relocate was based on the desire to be as centrally located as possible for the residents of Cobb, Cherokee, Douglas, and Paulding counties that we might continue the dream.

Since 2000, Burnt Hickory has continued the dream of making a Christian difference in the lives of those who live in Cobb, Cherokee, Douglas, and Paulding counties. In September 2018, our BH Bartow campus began to reach out to Bartow county. Today, we have a membership that spans these five counties and beyond. We are now one church in two locations!

We want to express our special thanks to all the church leaders and members who have sacrificed so much over the years to make Burnt Hickory what she is.  Because of your dedication, our future is bright, our mission is clear, and our love for God continues to direct our path.
